Evelyn Wheeler Real Estate & Appraisals can assist you with applying for a loan.

For most people, applying for a loan is one of the most stressful parts of buying a home. But it doesn't have to be. I have close working relationships with various mortgage lenders in Attica, and they've helped me realize a few things that make the loan application process very manageable.

1 – Assemble a list of questions about your loan program

Make sure to bring a list of questions with you if you do not perfectly grasp the pros and cons of the various programs. It can be hard to know the differences between fixed and adjustable rate mortgages. I or one of my lender contacts will assist you in understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both.

2 – Decide when you want to lock

By locking in a rate, the lender is guaranteeing the interest rates for the loan – commonly at the time the loan application is received. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between the loan application day and the issuing of closing documents. Buyers who prefer to float think the interest rates will plunge in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.

3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to lower your rate

Oftentimes you can choose to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan. Each point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan and is payable in cash at closing. Click here to use our points calculator. It will help you determine if purchasing points is right for you.

4 – Compile your paperwork

Getting a mortgage loan requires lots of paperwork, so you should take some time to get your documents together. Click here to see typical questions you'll have to answer on a loan app.
